21st Century Teacher Module: Civics (PKN)

This module was developed to support Civics teachers in integrating peace values into classroom learning.

Background

Civics teachers play a crucial role in shaping students’ character and sense of national identity. However, the normative and often abstract nature of the material can make it feel disconnected from students’ real lives. PeaceGeneration designed this module to help teachers deliver the values of Pancasila and citizenship in a practical way, using experience-based, empathetic, and dialogue-driven approaches.

Objectives

  • Equip Civics teachers with contextual, critical, and collaborative teaching methods
  • Provide learning activities that encourage students to think reflectively and engage actively
  • Integrate peace and diversity values into Civics education
  • Support teachers in developing 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, empathy, and effective communication

Strategy and Approach

  1. Collaborative and Thematic Module Design

The module was developed in collaboration with Civics teachers to ensure it meets local classroom needs. Each chapter focuses on current themes relevant to students’ everyday lives.

  1. Reflection- and Discussion-Based Activities

Each unit includes reflective exercises, simulations, and case studies that help students connect with values on a personal and social level.

  1. TANDUR and Experiential Learning Approach

This module applies the TANDUR method (Grow – Experience – Name – Demonstrate – Repeat – Celebrate), which enhances students’ absorption of value-based content.
