Frosh Module: Embracing Identity & Diversity

This module was created as part of a university orientation program to introduce new students to the importance of understanding, accepting, and celebrating diverse identities on campus.

Background

College often becomes the first space where individuals encounter diversity on a broader scale. Without proper understanding, this diversity can lead to prejudice or exclusion. PeaceGeneration developed this module in response to the need for a learning environment that promotes tolerance, inclusion, and self-awareness of social identity.

Objectives

  • Help new students understand the concepts of identity and diversity more deeply
  • Encourage personal reflection on individual and social identities
  • Foster openness and empathy toward differences on campus
  • Create a safe space for discussion and exploration of diversity-related topics

Strategy & Approach

  1. Modular and Interactive Structure

The module is thematically and gradually designed, starting with the concept of identity and moving toward understanding diversity and social dynamics. It includes personal reflections, group discussions, and case studies.

  1. Student-Friendly Visuals and Language

It uses engaging visuals, relatable student-life illustrations, and accessible, conversational language that avoids sounding preachy.

  1. Values-Based and Experiential Learning

Activities are based on peace values and experiential learning approaches to ensure participants engage not only cognitively, but also emotionally.

Output

  • An interactive, visually appealing module available in print and digital formats
  • Learning activities that integrate reflection, discussion, and identity mapping
  • Visual design that includes inclusive and representative student characters
  • A narrative structure that invites participants to explore others’ experiences through storytelling
